Biography

Fernando Mata Carrasco (Delicias, Chihuahua, April 20, 1960) is an industrial engineer, academic, lecturer, writer, trainer and advisor. He is a consultant and associate director of General Technology, a Texas-based organization dedicated to professional consulting services to boost the performance and growth of companies and educational institutions. He is president and founding partner of I-Tech Innovative Technologies for Education, an institution dedicated to to promote educational programs for young people with innovative learning techniques that enhance their talents.

He was Academic Vice Chancellor at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, from 2016 to 2018, a position in which he was presented on October 7, 2016. Previously, he served as Academic Vice Chancellor at the University of Monterrey, a position in which he held for six years, from 2010 to 2016.

Education

He graduated with honors as an Industrial and Systems Engineer (1976-1980) from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Tecnológico de Monterrey. He has an MBA (1982-1984) from American University and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering (1985-1990) from The Ohio State University.

Companies

He has been part of projects and training for NASA, National Science Foundation, CONACYT, Sony, Coca-Cola, Gamesa, Pemex, CEMEX, FEMSA, Vitro, Ternium, General Electric and AHMSA, CIQA, IPICYT, CINVESTAV research centers, among others. He has consulted and trained companies in the areas of strategic planning, supply chain management, logistics, benchmarking and strategic management of productivity, motivation and leadership for more than 20 years.

Before assuming the position of Academic Vice Chancellor at the Universidad de Monterrey, he served as Director of Programs for Latin America (1996-1999), Academic Director (2003-2006), Associate Director (2006-2009) and Director of Executive Education (2007 -2010) at the EGADE Business School, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey. He was a professor and consultant for the EGADE Business Accelerator and participated in entrepreneurship projects with the Ministry of Economy.

He has served as a professor at American University (1983-1984), Ohio State University (1985-1990), Colorado State University–Pueblo (1990-1994), ITESM (1980-1981, 1984-1985, 1994 -2007), TecVirtual (1994-2010), EGADE (1998-2010)5 and the Thunderbird School of Global Management (2000-2011).

As a consultant, he has worked in CONACYT centers such as the Instituto Potosino de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica and the Center for Research in Applied Chemistry, where he has been a member of the External Evaluation Committee in different generations and since 2011 he has been president of the committee. He has also worked as a consultant and adviser on projects linked to private companies, including SMEs through the EGADE Business Accelerator and the Despegue Strategies program.

He has been a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) since 1998. He has held various positions at the institute, including Vice President for Mexico and Latin America (1997-1999) and has been a member of various internal committees. He is a lecturer in symposiums and congresses with topics related to Industrial Engineering. He is also a speaker for the Speakers México agency in the area of Human Development, Leadership and Motivation.

He is the host, along with Berenice Peña, of the radio program "Negociando.life", where they discuss life and career issues.16 The program is broadcast on Frecuencia TEC 94.9 on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. central time.
