Courses Taught

  • Dr. Umphress teaches Dynamics of Negotiations and Ethical Leadership to executive, global, and full-time MBAs at the University of Washington. She uses cases and classroom exercises to help students experience classroom concepts, which facilitates learning and the transfer of those class concepts into the workplace. With regard to teaching, she was voted the Professor of the Year for the evening MBA program in 2014 and recognized as a Star Teacher for exemplary teaching many times since joining the faculty at the University of Washington. In addition, she was the recipient of two competitive college-level teaching awards from her former institution. Dr. Umphress also has extensive consulting and executive education experience. She has conducted executive education programs for companies such as Microsoft, ExxonMobil, and the Texas Transportation Institute. She specializes in teaching executives Strategic Communications and Negotiations, Ethical Leadership, and Organizational Leadership. Her consulting work focuses on empowering employees and enhancing productivity in the workplace. She has worked with companies such as NASA, Citigroup, and Lockheed Martin. Further, she is committed to teaching and mentoring doctoral students, exemplified by authoring eleven publications with current or former doctoral students.
