Biography

National University of Singapore

I am currently an associate professor of the Department of Geography at National University of Singapore and is part of the Tropical Environmental Change research group. I also direct the MSc (Applied GIS) programme in the department. My research interests fall under the general theme of geographic information science with focus on formal ontology and spatial cognition, qualitative description of spatial features, volunteered geographic information, and innovative means for geographic information retrieval. I believe all these themes are important to improve current geospatial information technologies, both in terms of the quality of spatial data and the efficiency of geocomputation.

The use of various geospatial technologies, which include but not limit to geographic information systems, remote sensing, GPS/WiFi/cell phone, and geo-tagged social media, to ensure sustainable development of cities are also of my research interests. Currently, my work in this direction involves spatial big data analytics, movement and trajectory analyses, public health issues in Asia.
