Biography
Dr. Annelies Vredeveldt is an Associate Professor at the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology at VU University Amsterdam. Her area of expertise concerns memory within a legal setting. Her research focuses mainly on eyewitness memory, investigative interviewing, police reports, face recognition and deception detection. She has obtained millions of euros in research funding from various prestigious sources. She is currently working on a five-year ERC Starting Grant project on eyewitness memory in cross-cultural contexts. Dr. Vredeveldt regularly serves as an expert witness in criminal cases and has contributed to the development and assessment of standards set by the Netherlands Register of Court Experts. She coordinates Project Reasonable Doubt, in which potentially dubious criminal convictions are re-evaluated. She teaches the course Psychology in the VU Bachelor's programme Law in Society. In 2017, she co-founded the Amsterdam Laboratory for Legal Psychology (ALLP).
