Research Narrative:

Ali S. Raja, MD, MBA, MPH is the Director of Network Operations and Business Development for the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Associate Director of Trauma for Brigham and Women’s Hospital, an Assistant Professor of Medicine (Emergency Medicine) at Harvard Medical School, and on the faculty of the Center for Evidence-Based Imaging at BWH. He is a board-certified emergency physician who completed a residency in emergency medicine at the University of Cincinnati and holds a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health as well as a Medical Degree and a Masters of Business Administration from Duke University. The author of over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, his federally-funded research focuses on improving the appropriateness of radiology utilization in the emergency department and he recently co-developed three emergency department imaging quality measures approved for national adoption by the National Quality Forum. Dr. Raja has lectured extensively, both nationally and internationally, on the management of critically ill patients in the emergency department and prehospital arenas, and has served as a civilian aeromedical flight physician, a critical care air transport team commander and flight surgeon for the United States Air Force Reserve, a tactical physician for a number of local, state, and federal agencies (he is currently the tactical physician for the Boston FBI SWAT team), and a physician with the MA-1 Disaster Management Assistance Team. Dr. Raja serves as a national faculty member of the Difficult Airway Course and has received both the BWH Outstanding Attending award from the Harvard-Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residents and the Exemplary Emergency Medicine Attending award from the BWH Emergency Department nurses. Dr. Raja lives in Sudbury, MA with his wife Danielle and son Chase.
