Victor Pereira

Victor M. Pereira Jr. is lecturer on education and Master Teacher in Residence (Science) of the Harvard Teachers Fellows Program. He earned his Bachelor of Science ('01) and Master of Arts in Teaching ('04) degrees from Boston College. For the past 14 years, he taught, coached, mentored and worked in many teacher-leadership roles at Excel High School in Boston Public Schools. In 2012, Pereira was the Massachusetts Recipient of the Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence. Since 2004, Pereira has worked with the Teacher Education Program in the Harvard Graduate School of Education in many different capacities including mentoring student teachers in their practicum placements, mentoring teachers during the Cambridge-Harvard Summer Academy, and methods instructor for two core classes. After working directly with Harvard UTEP students, he understands the transition between being a science student to becoming a science teacher. The Science Master Teacher in Residence is not only an opportunity for Pereira to participate in an innovative program that improves the preparation of teachers, but allows him to share his passion to motivate students and to deliver effective science instruction that encourages them to be independent thinkers and learners.
