Sepp D. Kohlwein is a full professor of biochemistry at the Institute of Molecular Biosciences, University of Graz, Austria. After having acquired his diploma in Technical Chemistry, he achieved his Ph.D. in the same field, both at the Graz University of Technology. Afterwards, he held different post-doctoral fellowships at universities in the United States of America. He earned his habilitation in Biochemistry in 1992 and became a full professor in 2001 at the University of Graz. He has absolved sabbatical years at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA and at the National University of Singapore.

Sepp Kohlwein is leading the working group ‘Yeast Genetics and Molecular Biology’. His research focus is "Fatty Acid and Triglyceride Metabolism in Yeast: Molecular Basis of Cellular Lipotoxicity".
