Sarah Kovner is a senior research scholar at the Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies at Columbia University. She works on modern Japan and its relations with the world in the twentieth century. Her research interests include war and society, gender and sexuality, and international history. Kovner was previously an associate professor at the University of Florida and has been a fellow in International Security Studies at Yale University. Currently she is writing a history of Allied prisoners in the Pacific War. Her first monograph, O_ccupying Power: Sex Workers and Servicemen in Postwar Japan_, won the Southeast Conference of the Association of Asian Studies book prize for 2014, and was a 2012 Choice outstanding academic title of the year. New articles are forthcoming in Diplomatic History and the Journal of Asian Studies, and others have been published in the Journal of Asian Studies _and the _Journal of Women''s History. Sarah Kovner received her A.B. from Princeton University and her Ph.D. from Columbia University.
