Bio

Rainey Ransom has been an Adjunct Professor at American University within the Department of Justice, Law and Society since 1991. Dr. Ransom was a full-time professor in the Department of Justice, Law and Society at American University for one year, but remains an Adjunct Associate Professor, where her areas of expertise include the prison system and capital punishment. She received the university’s Outstanding Adjunct Professor Award for an unprecedented two times in three years, 2006 and 2009. She earned a PhD in Sociology: Justice from American University and a JD from the Columbus School of Law, The Catholic University of America. Rainey Ransom is currently a judge on the D.C. Superior Court Bench.
