Biography
Phil Thompson is an Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Pamplin College of Business of Virginia Tech. His research examines micro-organizational behavior topics including organizational citizenship behavior, impression management, employee curiosity, mindfulness, and perceived organizational support and how these constructs, along with gender differences, influence employees’ job performance. His work has been published in the Journal of Applied Psychology and Harvard Business Review and he is currently on the editorial board of the Journal of Management.
He earned his PhD in Organizational Behavior from Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management, a Master’s in Industrial Organizational Psychology from Missouri State University, a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from McKendree University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Beloit College. Prior to entering academia, Phil worked as a manager and executive for multiple Fortune 500 companies. He is also a certified executive coach and has consulted for a wide range of organizations including the National Football League.

Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB), Gender, Perceived Organizational Support, Impression Management, Employee Job Performance, Workplace Curiosity, and Perceptions of Organizational Politics.
