Biography

Trinity College Dublin

Paul is Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and International Strategy. He holds a PhD in Management Studies from the University of Cambridge. He received his initial education at University College Dublin with a bachelor's degree in Commerce. He also holds an MBS from the same University.

He previously worked as a business consultant and investment analyst in Hong Kong and as a lecturer at the Smurfit Business School, University College Dublin and Cairnes Business School, National University of Ireland, Galway. He completed his PhD on ‘strategic industrial networks’ at the Judge Institute of Management Studies, University of Cambridge. He researches on multinational subsidiary strategy, industrial clusters and technological and international entrepreneurship and has published his research in a number of journals such as Regional Studies, European Journal of International Management, Organizational Research Methods and World Economy.

Paul Ryan is a senior lecturer in finance at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. He is Director of the MSc in Finance programme. From August 2007 to July 2012 he was Dean of the Institute of Bankers School of Professional Finance. He has lectured extensively across a broad range of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses in finance. He has published extensively in international academic and professional journals including, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, British Accounting Review, Journal of Investing, Professional Investor, as well as being widely reported in the financial press, including the Financial Times. Prior to joining UCD in 1990 he trained and qualified as a chartered accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
