Frankfurt School of Finance & Management

Martin Artz is Full Professor of Management Accounting and Control at the University of Muenster, Germany. Additionally, he serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, Germany, and as a Visiting Professor and Lecturer at the University of Bern, Switzerland. He further teaches in the Executive Programs at Mannheim Business School, Germany and at the Centrum für Unternehmensrechnung (CUR) in Muenster, Germany.

His core research interests relate to target setting and budgeting, performance measurement and incentives, as well as organizational design, especially in customer-centered organizations. He has published articles on these topics in recognized academic journals, such as The Accounting Review, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Marketing, and Journal of Marketing Research, as well as in various practitioner-oriented journals. For his dissertation on management control in marketing and sales, he received the Péter Horváth Management Accounting Award in 2010.

Martin Artz graduated in 2006 and received his doctoral degree in 2010 at the University of Mannheim, Germany. He has been a visiting scholar at Michigan State University, USA, University of Washington, USA, and Tilburg University, Netherlands. Prior to joining the faculty at Muenster, he has been a Professor at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, most recently as an Associate Professor of Management Accounting and Control.

Martin Artz serves, among others, as an ad-hoc reviewer for The Accounting Review (TAR), Management Science (MS), Contemporary Accounting Research (CAR), Accounting, Organizations and Society (AOS), and Journal of Management Accounting Research (JMAR) as well as for the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). Moreover, he serves as an Editorial Review Board member at the journals Accounting, Organizations and Society (AOS) and Journal of Management Accounting Research (JMAR).

Martin Artz has more than 15 years of experience in training and consulting managers and firms in areas such as strategy implementation, organizational alignment, planning, budgeting, and forecasting as well as data-driven performance measurement. He is teaching or has taught in several MBA and Executive MBA programs as well as in company in-house trainings in a broad range of industries such as consumer goods, fashion, financial services, logistics, mechanical engineering, sports, and transportation.
