Biography

Maria Jeziorska is a Senior Lecturer in Molecular Pathology in the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Gastroenterology, School of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health at the University of Manchester.

She obtained her training and specialisation as a pathologist and her PhD at the Medical Academy, Warsaw, Poland and worked as a Consultant Pathologist and Research Fellow at the Institute of Oncology/Centre of Oncology, Warsaw, Poland.

Her research over the last 25 years at Manchester University focuses on peripheral diabetic neuropathy, atherosclerosis, scleroderma, mechanisms of tumour invasion and paleopathology.

Current Projects

 

Comparison of usefulness of skin biopsies and corneal confocal microscopy as markers for assessment of diabetic neuropathy.

Effects of treatment on small fibre neuropathy in patients with sarcoidosis.

Expression of adipokines in subcutaneous adipose tissue from patients before and after bariatric surgery.

Hypoxia and related microvascular changes in heart tissue of patients with diabetes type 1 and 2 with ischemic heart disease (IHD) and nondiabetics with IHD 

Developing antigen retrieval methods for disclosing antigens in severely compromised tissues such as Egyptian and naturally desiccated mummies.
