Biography

Marco Viola is a Managing Partner and founder of Nexus Partners. Nexus Partners is a US investor, general partner and manager of a portfolio of companies with over 5000 employees and company value in excess of $500MM. Current portfolio companies include investments in retailing, health care services, education, telecommunications, water treatment, food service, media and industrial laundry. Prior to Nexus, Marco was Managing Director of Bank of America since 1995, heading the principal investment unit for Latin America (Banc of America Equity Partners - Latin America). This group was the Latin American arm of Banc of America Equity Partners, which had a private equity portfolio of over $10B invested worldwide. Mr. Viola performed the sourcing, screening, valuation, investment decision and management of portfolio companies in Latin America. Since 1995, Marco managed and exited over 30 transactions and made equity investments of nearly $1B in Latin America and the US. Prior to being a Managing Partner at Banc of America Equity Partners, he was a Principal at Booz-Allen & Hamilton's Financial Services Group - a strategic management consulting firm, based in New York and specializing in strategic and organizational projects for corporations in Latin America, Europe, the U.S., and Asia, including postings in Mexico, Brazil, Spain, and Japan. Mr. Viola was active in a variety of valuation, joint venture, merger, and turnaround projects for his clients, including assignments in the financial services, manufacturing, engineering, and pharmaceutical sectors. In 1993 he earned for his work the Professional Excellence Award - highest level of professional recognition given yearly to the best projects in BAH worldwide (out of 2,000 assignments). Before joining Booz-Allen, Mr. Viola worked in budgeting and planning for Banco Roberts (acquired by HSBC) in Argentina and as an internal consultant for Aeroterra S.A., a satellite technology and image processing company. Mr. Viola served on the Board of over 20 for profit and non-profit companies in health care, retailing, media, education, microfinance, water treatment, telecommunications, etc. and is currently on the Board of GeoGroup (Brazil), Service Care Participacoes (Brazil), Team Quality S.A. (Argentina), Crown Linen (US), Garland (US), Accelerate Career Colleges (US) and Abilis (US). Mr. Viola is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and speaks basic French, Italian and German. He received an MS degree from the M.I.T. Sloan School of Management (1990) (where he received a partial Fullbright Scholarship and was also awarded an Organization of American States -OAS- Fellowship) and a BS from the Facultad de Ciencias Economicas of the Universidad de Buenos Aires (1987).
