Biography
Sloan School of Management
Leo Tomè has been assisting organizations with digital transformation for more than a decade - bridging the gap between strategy, digital roadmaps, and implementation and operationalization. His experience spans across industries, including education, finance, retail, renewables, healthcare, legal, distribution, manufacturing, and FMCG verticals.
He holds an MBA and a M.Sc.Eng. Since 2016, he has been a learning facilitator for online management technology courses offered by the MIT Sloan School of Management and 2U. These courses include Digital Business Strategy, A.I., IoT, and Big Data Analytics. What he loves most about his involvement in these courses, apart from continuously being exposed to the latest thinking, is networking with business leaders from across the globe (85 countries) from different industries. He leverages the executive level insights gained across these industry verticals, reviewing digital strategies of more than 4500 (and growing) MIT Sloan course participants.
Throughout his career, he has played a critical role in translating the vision to an implementable roadmap and scalable solution. His experience includes POC to Production Deployment for digital engagements that range from CRM & ERP to Computer Vision and NLP AI. He has also assisted with platform business models, competitor analysis, organizational design, and business model innovation.
Some of his significant projects include:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI: NLP) and Digital Transformation for a global Top 15 law firm
- Project Manager for an automated visual inspection (AI: computer vision) project (counting finished goods and integrating with SAP) for the biggest egg producer in Africa
- ERP and CRM Implementations for a national chemical producer (Efekto), direct marketing jewelry manufacturer (Miglio), national Bond Originator (ooba) – implementations included multiple EDI integrations
- Design and operationalization of a warhead effectiveness simulation and assessment model for an international weapons manufacturer
- A data analytics analysis project for an international fruit logistics company
- Identification of AI opportunities in predictive maintenance for a consortium of gas utilities in the USA
- Organizational Design of the commercial systems functional support team at the biggest CFA value retailer in Africa
- DtC platform business model design and implementation for one of South Africa’s top 3 wine producers
- Data Valuation engagement at biggest CFA value retailer in Africa
- Virtual Volunteering Platform design for a virtual events organization including integration with CSR platforms
- Contractual Obligations and specification review for the Dynamics 365 Implementation Partner & Human Capital Management Suite & Payroll, of a Human Capital Management Suite for the Perishable Products Export Control Board
- Development of an Open Web Portal for grant applications for the Foundation Botnar based in Switzerland. The project includes a Web UI, system integration, and AI technologies such as NLP and swarm AI.
One area of his consulting He enjoys in particular is supporting established businesses envision a new digital-first business models or alternative versions of their current models. While much of the hype highlights digital-native companies such as Uber, Airbnb, and Instagram as examples of disruptive digital business models, He finds particular satisfaction in working with more traditional organizations to create sustainable shareholder value through innovative digital strategies.
