Laurie is a former faculty member of The Banff Centre, Leadership Division, where she lead the design and delivery of customized leadership development and performance management programs for over thirteen years. In 2001, she was awarded the Faculty of the Year Award from The Banff Centre. Laurie is currently a senior faculty member at the University of Alberta, in the School of Business, Executive Education, and formerly a faculty member at Royal Roads University, Victoria, teaching and coaching in the Master of Arts in Leadership Program and customized leadership programs.
Specializing in all areas of leadership development, Laurie has particular passion in the areas of: executive and team coaching, emotional intelligence, organizational culture, change leadership, team effectiveness, and succession challenges related to building a viable, diverse, and engaged workplace for the future.
With a well-earned reputation as an excellent interactive facilitator, Laurie blends her practical, workplace experience with academic quests, bringing with her an ability to create a dynamic and positive learning environment. She has consulted to organizations in the public sector, private enterprise, and not-for-profit organizations.
Laurie Hillis, is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP), a University of Toronto grad in Canadian Risk Management (1988), and she is a Master Practitioner of the Myers-Briggs® Type Indicator ~ Step II and Step III. As well in her coaching and facilitation practices she is certified in a variety of assessments to enhance learning and encourage self-awareness, such as the: EQ and Stress Maps, the EQi V2, the Birkman Inventory, the Strength Deployment Inventory and the Character Foundations Assessment.
Laurie loves to coach and continues her learning in this evocative field. She has completed: the Organizational Relationship Systems Coaching program (CRR 2007), Results Coach certificate based on brain-based processes developed by David Rock (2008), Doug Silsbee’s Presence-Based Coaching (2010) and LIPCC coaching programs (2011) and most recently Team Coaching International’s suite of team coaching diagnostic tools and processes (2012). Laurie is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) with the International Coaching Federation.
A highlight of her recent learning was when she became a grad of the Immunity-to-Change certification program at Harvard, helping individuals, teams and organizations get "unstuck"... well that's the theory! And yes it works too.
As a passionate lifelong learner, Laurie completed a Master of Arts in Leadership Program at Royal Roads University, Victoria (1999). Her thesis "Leadership Learning: A Leap of Faith", explored the importance of learning for today's leaders.
