Graziadio School of Business and Management

Michael Rainey is a dynamic, insightful, highly-regarded adjunct law professor and business instructor with more than 20 years of hands-on legal and business experience. His legal positions include in-house counsel to an international firm, litigator for local law firms, and more than 15 years as a solo practitioner. Mr. Rainey is the winner of several awards for business management and outstanding teaching, as well as author of a popular law school course and the accompanying textbook. He is committed to the principles of community service, ethical business management and exceptional legal and business education.

Alternative Dispute Resolution: Creator of an ADR business specializing in mediation of construction, real property, personal injury and complex litigation cases. Active in numerous dispute resolution panels and organizations. Mediator with Los Angeles Superior Court and Ventura Superior Court panels; former JAMS/Endispute panel member; contract mediator with California Department of Insurance and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)

Honda Companies: Served as counsel for all Honda product liability lawsuits in the western third of U.S. Coordinated Honda’s defense and served as the liaison between Honda, its insurers, and local counsel from foreign jurisdictions. Also served as co-counsel in major injury trials in 7 U.S. cities.

Transportation Accident Cases: Investigated and managed litigation through trial of accident cases involving airlines, airplanes, helicopters, motorcycles, automobiles and trucks, as well as major construction losses and other complex cases involving major injury or extensive property damage.
