Biography

I joined The University of Manchester (formerly UMIST) in January 1998. From April 2007 I have been a member of School Leadership Team,  as  Director of Research (4/2007-4/2010),  Director of External Affairs (5/2010-) and  Deputy Head of School (10/2013-). I was Head of Electrical Energy and Power Systems Group between 2/2014-1/2016.   I am  Visiting Professor at the University of Novi Sad, Novi Sad,  Serbia (1/2010-) and the University of Belgrade, Belgrade, Serbia (7/2015-) and Conjoint Professor at the University of Newcastle, Newcastle, Australia (4/2012-).

Prior to joining The University of Manchester I worked with Energoprojekt, engineering and consulting company in Belgrade, Yugoslavia (http://eng.energoprojekt.rs/), University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia (http://www.etf.bg.ac.rs) and the universities of Newcastle (http://www.newcastle.edu.au/school/electrical-engineering-computer-science/) and Tasmania (http://fcms.its.utas.edu.au/scieng/eng/people.asp) in Australia. As Lecturer in Power Engineering in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Tasmania, I co-established with, then Dr Michael Negnevitsky, one of Australia''s first (if not the first) centres for power quality research.

My research and consultancy work  over the years has been equally split between the areas of Power System Dynamics and Power Quality with a common, underlying stream of probabilistic / stochastic modelling of uncertainties of events and system parameters. As far as my contribution to national and international industry is concerned, apart from some software tools developed by my team of researchers and occasional consultancy work,  it  is probably best reflected  through my involvement in development of industrial guidelines and best practices as a member of CIGRE/CIRED/IEEE Working Groups. I am or was a member of several CIGRE/CIRED/IEEE  WGs and a  convenor of CIGRE WG C4.605 "Modelling and aggregation of loads in flexible power networks", CIGRE/CIRED JWG C4.112 "Guidelines for power quality monitoring, analysis and presentation of results"  (http://www.e-cigre.org/) and a co-chair of IEEE TF " Stability definitions and characterisation of dynamic behaviour in systems with high penetration of power electronic interfaced technologies "

In addition to being involved in tens of technical and programme committees of international conferences I was Chairman of the   7th IASTED International Conference on Power and Energy Systems (EuroPES 2007), Vice-Chairman of Local Organising Committee of the 16th Power System Computation Conference (PSCC 2008), Chairman of the 2nd IEEE PES Conference on Innovative Smart Grid Technologies – Europe, (ISGT PES-Europe 2011) and Chairman of the  12th IEEE PES PowerTech Conference, (PowerTech Manchester 2017).

Since January 2015 I am IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Regional representative for Europe, Middle East and Africa and member of IEEE PES Governing Board and since 2016 I am a memeber of the IEEE PES Fellows Committee.
