Head of the Behavioral Neurology and Dementia Section at Hospital del Mar, and of the Behavioral Neurology Group (Neuropsychopharmacology Program) of the Municipal Medical Research Institute of Barcelona. Director of the Master in Neuropsychology and Behavioral Neurology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (1974). Doctor of Medicine from the University of Navarra (1989). Early interested in Neuropsychology, he combined his studies in Medicine with that of the Russian language and translated into Spanish the work by AR Luria “Fundamental Neurolinguistics”. (1980). Granted by the French government, he did a stage at the Hospital de la Salpêtrière (Profs. Lhermitte and Signoret).

Jordi Peña-Casanova is Head of the Behavioral Neurology and Dementia Section of the Parc de Salt Mar (Hospital del Mar), in Barcelona. He is director of the Master in Neuropsychology and Behavioral Neurology of the Department of Psychiatry and Legal Medicine of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​of which he is an associate professor.

In his research activities, he is the Director of the Behavioral Neurology and Dementia Group of the Neuropsychopharmacology Program of the Municipal Institute of Medical Research, recognized as a consolidated research group.

He is a member, among others, of the following societies: American Academy of Neurology, International Psychogeriatric Association, International Neuropsychological Society, Study Group of Aphasia and Cognitive Disorders of the World Federation of Neurology, Spanish Society of Neurology, Catalan Society of Neuropsychology, New York Academy of Sciences.

Among his scientific contributions are the works "Neuropsychology" -with L. Barraquer- (1983); "Logopedia Manual" (1988, 1995, 2001); "The rehabilitation of aphasia and associated disorders" (1984, 1995); “Integrated Program of Neuropsychological Exploration-Test Barcelona” (1990, 2005); "Neuropsychological and Functional Assessment of Dementia" -with T. Del Ser- (1994); "Dyslexias and Dysgraphia" -with A. Roch-Lecours- (1998); and the development of the "Activate the Mind" program for Alzheimer's patients from the "La Caixa" Foundation (1999). His latest contribution has been the edition of the book "Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychology" (2007), with the collaboration of 31 professionals from clinical, academic and research fields.

He is the author or co-author of more than 100 specialized articles in national and foreign magazines. He has participated as a professor and guest speaker at multiple international meetings. His current activities are focused on the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, the standardization of cognitive and functional assessment instruments (NEURONORMA project) and clinical trials with drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

Among the latest prizes awarded for his research, it is worth highlighting the 2007 and 2009 Alzheimer Prize in its scientific version, awarded by the Spanish Society of Neurology, and the Award for Professional Excellence in Biomedical Research, awarded by the Official College of Physicians of Barcelona.
