Teaching Statement
John Hurley focuses his energy at the GSB on course and case development in investment management. Along with Stuart Klein (JD/MBA ‘83) he teaches the investment courses created by and taught from 1968-2017 by the late Professor Jack McDonald. Mr. Hurley also has worked extensively with students and GSB graduates contemplating investment careers and new fund formation.
Bio
Mr. Hurley is the Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Cavalry Asset Management. Based in San Francisco and Hong Kong, Cavalry invests in both public and private companies primarily in the technology sector.
Mr. Hurley graduated with Honors from Princeton University in 1986, where he was Chairman of The Daily Princetonian. Upon Graduation, Mr. Hurley served for five years as an artillery officer in the United States Army, including combat duty as a fire direction officer for the First Cavalry Division during the first Gulf War.
After graduating from the GSB with an MBA in 1993, Mr. Hurley joined Fidelity Management and Research as a portfolio manager and analyst. In 1997 he became Managing Partner of Bowman Capital Management, and in 2003 he founded Cavalry Asset Management.
In addition to serving as a Lecturer at the GSB, Mr. Hurley is a member of the Executive Committees of the EastWest Institute and Business Executives for National Security, and the Board of Trustees of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). He and his wife Kamilla (GSB 1992) have three sons.
