Founder at Indrani’s Light foundation

My experience and deep interests:

I am based in: Houston

I was born in Trinidad and Tobago, I arrived in New York in 1974. I studied communications at Queens College.

I attended Kent State University where I pursued my Masters in Interpersonal communications, life intervened and I was unable to complete the program.

I have survived severe maternal abuse and I have ended generational domestic violence in my family.

The journey through abuse and not knowing how to parent in healthy ways, led me to create Indrani''s Light, a non-profit dedicated to ending domestic violence. In 2012, I partnered the first founding member with the most invested with HRH Mette Marit and The Bill and Melina Gates foundation on gender-based violence initiatives in Indian and Trinidad.

My work to end violence is my passion and I believe that I make a difference in the world. I am most passionate about creating a culture of peace for children at home. When we can end violence at home, we will have a fighting chance to end it outside the home.

I value treating everyone as equals and being able to listen to understand what''s being spoken. I think the best leaders use their ears more than their mouths.

In my free time, I quilt and travel and am a voracious reader. I love speaking to my adult children as I always learn from them.
