Heather Robinson

Overview

Heather Robinson is a health data analyst with interests in epidemiology, child health and population genetics. Her current projects include characterizing trajectories in UK child measurements, validating medical algorithms based on electronic patient data, and promoting reproducibility in epidemiological research.

In statistically profiling the growth of children in primary education, Heather is interested in advancing our understanding of which children are at the highest risk of developing adult obesity, and to ascertain how we can effectively safeguard their future health.

Heather is also assessing how algorithms can be used to characterise disease progression in patients, using routinely collected information from their electronic patient records. Her interest is in determining whether this can be further exploited in an epidemiological context to compare the disease burdens of different patient groups.

Heather''s past work has been diverse, including ecological and microbiological projects, DNA analysis and bioarchaeology. 

Biography

Heather Robinson is a member of the School of Health Sciences , part of the Faculty of Biology, Medicine & Health. She holds a BSc in Microbiology and Genetics (University of Sheffield, 2007), a MSc in Evolutionary Genetics (The University of Manchester, 2010) and a PhD in Genetics (The University of Manchester, 2016), and has experience within the pharmaceutical industry. Heather co-organises the R at Univerity of Manchester user group (RUM), and is a member of the ATHENA SWAN self assessment team for the School of Health Sciences.
