Biography

I graduated from Queen Elizabeth College, the University of London, with a degree in Physics and Astronomy in 1975. After abandoning studies for a DPhil in nuclear astrophysics at Oxford, travels in Asia and the Pacific and a period working for ActionAid, a Third World development agency, I obtained an MA degree in Rural Development from the University of East Anglia in 1984. I came to the Victoria University of Manchester in 1985 to study for a PhD in Agricultural Economics, and became a lecturer in 1989 and senior lecturer in 2002.
