Ivey Business School
Mr. Phipps is a former entrepreneur, business operations, and investment executive with more than 25 years of experience in startups and investment management. The last twenty years of his career have been focused on managing venture capital investments in knowledge-based companies in Canada; first as Director, Venture Capital with BDC Venture Capital – one of the largest and the oldest venture fund in Canada. Most recently, Mr. Phipps was Managing Director, Investment, for Innovacorp’s early-stage venture capital fund, where he managed a team of six investment professionals and co-managed their portfolio of 40 companies. Phipps has taught venture capital (MGMT 6110), at the Master’s level, as a member of the part-time faculty at Saint Mary’s University (Halifax). In 2017, Greg designed and developed educational curriculum for MaRS Discovery District. In addition, Greg has delivered webinars, workshops and lectures on finance/investment, venture readiness, entrepreneurial start-up challenges and skills development to numerous organizations including: The Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators (CICBV)(national); CICBV Atlantic Chapter; Ontario Bioscience Innovation Organization; Digital Nova Scotia; Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Society Toronto, MaRS Discovery District, Innovacorp, and to MBA students at Dalhousie University and Saint Mary’s University. As Faculty Director, Gregory is currently collaborating with The Ivey Academy at Ivey Business School and the Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (CVCA) to develop and manage the launch of the Canadian Private Capital School: the first learning & development program of its kind in Canada.
