Biography

Georgia Tech Professional Education

Dr. Wright holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and has more than twenty-five years in research and development, most notably in cyber security technologies and concepts. In 2008, Dr. Wright founded a cybersecurity incubator, which led to the formation of a major research Laboratory (business unit) within GTRI, the Cyber Technology and Information Security Laboratory. Dr. Wright currently serves as the Deputy Laboratory Director of the “Cyber Lab”. His work in network-centric and intelligence systems development and testing has focused on technology support for novel paradigms distributed control systems. He has developed secure network-centric test and evaluation concepts and systems for all of the services.

Dr. Fred Wright has extensive experience in research and development (R&D), most notably in cyber security technologies and concepts. In addition to a broad technical background, his visionary leadership has resulted in organizational excellence and explosive growth. Whether engaging large companies or Government organizations, Dr. Wright has been both a technical and business development principal.

Dr. Wright is recognized as an expert in cyber security. For the past ten years, he has focused on security issues and, in particular, the “innovation gap” between cyber threat capability and defensive technology. As a result, his research is focused on the most challenging problems in protecting enterprises. One example is critical data protection for large enterprises where robust, complex systems engineering approaches are needed to address architecture, defensive solutions, security operations, and policy. Additionally, Dr. Wright recently led the development of a new security awareness product line that uses mobile games, targeted at the entire workforce.

In a previous role at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), he worked to solve some of the hardest technical challenges facing government and industry. He served as a Fellow for the GTRI, where he led the Cyberspace/Information Operations Initiative resulting the formation of a major research Laboratory (business unit) within GTRI. In this role, he also developed commercial business with Fortune 500 companies.

Adoption of innovative security technology is a significant challenge for most organizations. As part of the commercial thrust, Dr. Wright established a “new technology evaluation” cell. This cell looks at cutting-edge start-up companies to identify technology for early adoption into both industry and government.

Wright also serves as an adjunct professor in the Georgia Tech School of Computer Science and lead instructor in the Cyber Security Certificate Program.
