Neal Geller

Biography

A. Neal Geller, professor emeritus, taught at the School of Hotel Administration from 1974 to 2008. During his tenure, he taught the required capstone financial management course, Hospitality Financial Management, as well as an elective course in Internal Control. His research focused on financial management and accounting applications for the hospitality industry. Geller authored "Executive Information Needs in Hotel Companies" (1984); "Internal Control: A Fraud-Prevention Handbook for Hotel and Restaurant Managers" (1991); and over thirty professional journal articles. Geller also served as a consultant to many hospitality companies. His consulting work involved operational and financial analysis and expert witness engagements. He is a member of the American Accounting Association and the Association of Hospitality Financial Management Educators, and a past member of the Financial Management Committee of the American Hotel and Motel Association. In 2004, Geller was appointed to the Supervisory Committee of the Community Federal Credit Union of Ithaca and Cortland, New York. From 1995 until 2000, Geller was the school''s associate dean for academic affairs. In that capacity he served as leader of the faculty and as the chief academic officer for all of the school''s degree programs. From 1991 to 1995, Geller was the Richard and Monene Bradley Director of Graduate Studies, overseeing the development and certification of the school''s new Master of Management in Hospitality degree. Geller obtained a BS degree from the School of Hotel Administration in 1964, an MBA in 1974 from Cornell University, and a PhD in accounting from the School of Management at Syracuse University in 1977. He also has extensive experience in the management of resorts and hotels.
