David De Cremer is the provost chair and professor in Management and Organisation at NUS Business School, a fellow at the University of Cambridge, Department of Economics & Policy, an affiliate researcher at the JusticeCollaboratory at Yale Law School, Yale University (US). Before moving to NUS, he was the KPMG endowed professor of management studies at Cambridge Judge Business School, and a fellow at St. Edmunds college, University of Cambridge (UK).

He was an associate editor of Academy of Management Annals and Social Justice Research and is a member of the international advisory board at California Management Review. He has published over more than 250 articles and book chapters in the fields of psychology, organizational behavior and management and has edited several academic books integrating the fields of economics, management, psychology and finance by employing behavioral approaches. He is also the co-author (with Tian Tao and Wu Chunbo) of the book “Huawei: Leadership, culture and connectivity”, which was a global best-seller. His work has been discussed in media such as, among others, the Scientific American, Bloomberg News, The Economist, Forbes, The Financial Times, Harvard Business Review, The Economist Intelligence Unit, Wall Street Journal, CBS Money Watch, The Sunday Times, Daily Telegraph, BBC, and Psychology Today.

In 2005 he received the honor to become a fellow of the Royal Dutch Academy of Science. In 2009-2010 he was named the most influential (behavioral) economist in the Netherlands (Top 40 of economists) and in 2016 he was named one of the Top Thought Leaders in Trust by the organization Trust across America (alongside late management guru Stephen Covey and Richard Edelman, President and CEO of Edelman; publisher of the annual Edelman Trust Barometer) whose annual list recognizes people for efforts “in elevating societal trust.” He is the recipient of many scientific awards including the British Psychology Society award for “Outstanding Ph.D. thesis in social psychology”, the “Jos Jaspars Early Career award for outstanding contributions to social psychology”, the “Comenius European Young Psychologist award”, and the “International Society for Justice Research Early Career Contribution Award”. In 2013 he was awarded the CEIBS Research Excellence Award (Shanghai, China) and in 2015 received the mid-career award from the British Psychology Society for his contributions to the field of psychology.

He was born in Belgium (Leuven) and has extensive global experience having lived and worked in Europe, UK, US, Middle-East and Asia. Professor De Cremer is interested in examining the behavioral and managerial foundations of what makes leaders effective, across a variety of industries. Recently, he developed a specific research program on understanding the role of leadership in the new technology era. His other interests include promotion of the field of behavioral business ethics (in 2012 he published the first book on this area of investigation), understanding the role that trust plays in organizations and how technological developments seem to narrow down the content of the notion trustworthiness and create new inequalities, the importance of organizational justice in promoting inclusive and collaborative work cultures, and the international dimensions of business with a specific focus on China, UK US and the EU and how those relationships influence policy-making.
