Dan runs the program from the CMU Los Angeles center and travels to Pittsburgh where he also teaches on the main campus. In addition to his work at CMU, Dan is an Associate Acting Professor at The Theatre Academy of LA City College.   He was also part of the founding faculty of The Entertainment Technology Center for Carnegie Mellon University in Adelaide, Australia. He previously taught or directed at University of Southern California, University of Texas; University of Michigan; East Los Angeles College, and Wilmington College, OH.

In addition to his education background, Dan has worked in television production on several programs including ER, THE SOPRANOS, PARTY OF FIVE, TIME OF YOUR LIFE, FANTASY ISLAND, THE ADVENTURES OF BRISCO COUNTY JR., SHE TV, and THE WEST WING._ _Dan directed the pilot, MUNHALL starring George Wendt (CHEERS) and Tom Atkins (LAW AND ORDER). Dan directed and produced the film, ENTROPY, which toured the country on the festival circuit. His film, LISTEN, a documentary about inner city teens, was marketed as a teaching tool in classrooms throughout the United States.

As a writer, Dan''s produced work includes co-writing the film, LISTEN. He also wrote and directed several commercials and PSAs. Other writing work includes CANTERBURY AIR, CREW HOURS_,_ and AN ELF CHORUS LINE_._ He also directed a staged reading of his script, THE RULES OF A MUSLIM IN LOVEin Los Angeles. As a casting Director, Dan cast THE KENNEDY MYSTIQUE: CREATING CAMELOTfor National Geographic Channel. He also was the US casting director for NIXON IN CHINA, 72’ for Central Chinese Television (CCTV), Beijing, China.

He has directed dozens of plays and industrials. He was a board member at the award winning Circle Theatre in Chicago and was director of development for The Body Politic Theatre in Chicago. His New York productions include WAITING WOMEN and ALICIA IN WONDER TIERRA at New Dramatists and THE UNRULY BOOBY for Ensemble Studio Theatre. In Los Angeles, he has directed at The Whitefire Theatre, The Barnsdale Art Gallery, The Tiffany, The Met Theatre, St. Ambrose Arts Center, Bang Theatre, The HBO Workspace, Write Act Theatre and Magna Carta Theatre. He has founded and directed several comedy/improvisational groups including the group, Authorized Personnel, which toured the country. He was also the producing director for the company Plays On Tape.

Dan received his MFA in directing from Carnegie Mellon University (honors), his BA in acting/directing from Southern Illinois University (honors) and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in higher education and organizational leadership at Azusa Pacific University. He is a graduate of The Second City, Chicago and the Players Workshop of Second City, Chicago. He has presented at the NASPA conference in Phoenix, AZ with his doctoral research team on the topic, Curiosity: A Key to Understanding High-Achieving Students and also presented at the Conference of The Comparative and International Educational Society with research titled, The Independents Come of Age: A Case Study of Maturing Public-Private Higher Education in China.

Dan is a member of The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, The Comparative and International Education Society, and The Association of Arts Administration Educators. He was past president of Carnegie Mellon’s West Coast Drama Alumni Clan, the past president of the Carnegie Mellon National Alumni Association Board and was honored with an Alumni Service Award from the University for his many years of support. In 2005, he delivered the keynote commencement address at Carnegie Mellon University, titled, An Arbitrary Time.
