Sarah Gurwitz has over 30 years of experience in the field of Human Resource Management with the federal government. Sarah began her career as a Peace Corps volunteer serving in Venezuela for 2 years, while there, she set up a senior volunteer program at a state run nursing home. After returning to the United States she started working for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a recruitment and employee relations specialist. Sarah took on greater responsibility as the Director of Human Resources Management where for over 20 years she was responsible for all Human Resource Management activities for a large inner city VA Medical Center with over 2500 employees. Her role expanded to the national level where she served as a Human Resources Consultant for VA''s Undersecretary for Health, in that role she was responsible for identifying and resolving national human resources needs, implementing a competency based development model and the development of the Administration''s workforce and succession management plan. In addition Sarah organized and chaired VHA''s Strategic Human Resource Council, where she was responsible for the development of the HR Modernization project, a plan that eventually automated most of the HR functions. Sarah also served as faculty for VHA''s National Leadership Institute as well as a coach to new and aspiring leaders.

Since her retirement from the federal government Sarah has a private consulting company where she provides expert HR consultation for the both federal government and private sector organizations. Projects have included HR staff and Supervisory training, HR program assessments, technical HR advice, organizational assessments, workforce planning and policy development. Federal agencies have included, Department of Justice, Department of the Interior, Department of Homeland Security (ICE), Department of Veterans Affairs and General Service Administration. Private sector organizations have been in not-for-profit religious organizations. In addition she is a trained docent for the Lower East Side Conservancy, a not for profit NYC touring organization.

She is skilled in organizational development; is an excellent platform instructor, is technologically savvy and has strong interpersonal skills.

Sarah holds a BA in Social Sciences and Education from SUNY at Fredonia and a MA in Education from Hofstra University. In addition she has taken numerous continuing education courses in Leadership, Human Resource Management and Information technology.
