ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES

Professor Chris Ramos is the Executive Director of Arts and Entertainment Management Program with research interests in the arts and entertainment industry both in not-for-profit and for-profit organizational structure. Ramos joined the Lubin School of Business in 2012 and serves as the faculty advisor for The Industry Network student-run organizations. Ramos' teaching interests include topics in the performing arts, not-for-profit organizational behavior, film/dance studies, managing creativity and regularly teaches courses including Arts and Entertainment Management, Managerial and Organizational Behavior, Management in Business of Music, Management in the Business of Performing Arts, First-Year Seminar: Introduction to University Community, Business Honors Senior Thesis Management and Business and Management Internship. In 2017, Professor Ramos has been recognized by the Lubin of School Business with Excellence in Teaching Award.

He is currently serving as a Board Ambassador for New York City's Battery Dance Company since 2012 and as an active member of New York City Arts-Education Roundtable. As former performing artist in the field of dance theater, Ramos has an extensive practice in linking management theories and real practical life application in providing authentic and reliable academic experience that he regularly shares with his students. His wide-ranging knowledge and industry professionals' connections in the arts and entertainment industry have given Ramos measurable outcomes in building strong relationships with students, administrators and faculty members. Ramos involvement in building and improving the Arts & Entertainment Management Program has resulted to more than 100% increase in enrollment since the inception of the program in 2012.

Prior entering the world of academia, Ramos has 20 years of experience in the performing arts as a dancer, choreographer, arts educator and artistic director of Ramos Dance, a dance company based in New Jersey. From 2000 thru 2002, Ramos has received the award as an artist-in-residence by the New Jersey State Council for the Arts in which he developed and created dance/academic arts-in-education curriculum for elementary, middle school and high school venues. In addition, he has danced with dance companies including the Hawaii Ballet Theater, Ballet Hawaii, Hartford Ballet, Soundance Repertory Company and dances created by Kevin Wynn, Sean Curran, Lonnie Moretton, Heidi Latsky, just to name a few. His dances were showcased throughout the tri-state area from 1989 through 2002.

Professor Ramos' background both in businesses and arts has provided him with solid understanding of the industry, enabling him to write those viewpoints in his research studies. His research studies include arts program funding offered in New York City public school, online DVDs rating in relationship with Netflix and Amazon rater reviewers, empirical validity of prior experience for performance affected by rating approaches, just to name a few. In 2018, his collaborative paper on “The Relationship of Amazon Ratings of DVDs with Netflix Ratings of Movie Quality Across Global Markets,” written together with Professor Dan Baugher (first author), was presented at the 25th annual American Society of Business and Behavioral Science conference held in Las Vegas, NV has received the “Best Paper of a Track.”
