Biography

Cem Öztürk joined Georgia Tech as an Assistant Professor in 2012. His research concentrates on the area of empirical quantitative marketing, with specific interests in competitive product strategies and retail competition. His papers examine the effects of product distribution, merchandising, and promotion decisions on firm and consumer behavior. From a methodological viewpoint, he studies these effects by developing reduced-form and structural econometric models, spatial econometric models, and optimization models.

Cem''s work has appeared/forthcoming in Marketing Science, European Journal of Operational Research, and IIE Transactions. Additionally, his paper titled "Price Reactions to Rivals'' Local Channel Exits" is featured in the Capital Ideas Magazine of Chicago Booth. Cem has served as a referee for Management Science and Quantitative Marketing and Economics. He was the winner of the university-level CTL/BP Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award in 2017, and Scheller College''s nominee for the Class of 1940 Beard Outstanding Teacher Award in 2016 and 2017. He also received the university-level Class of 1940 Course Survey Teaching Effectiveness Award in 2013 and 2014,  the Full-time MBA Elective Professor of the Year Award in 2014, and the Evening MBA Elective Professor of the Year Award in 2015.

Before joining Scheller, Cem received his Ph.D. in Business from Emory University. Prior to his doctoral studies, he received his M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Koç University and his B.S. in Industrial Enginerring from Galatasaray University.

Darla Moore School of Business

Cem Öztürk is a Business Partnership Foundation Dean’s Fellow and assistant professor of marketing at the Darla Moore School of Business. Previously, he was an assistant professor of marketing at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research concentrates on the area of empirical quantitative marketing, with specific interests in marketing channels, competitive strategy, marketing and public policy, sustainability, retailing and digital marketing. From a methodological viewpoint, he studies these topics by using state-of-the-art causal inference methods as well as developing structural econometric models, spatial econometric models and machine learning models.

His work has appeared in Marketing Science (3), Journal of International Business Studies, IIE Transactions, and European Journal of Operational Research. His paper titled “Consumer Response to Chapter 11 Bankruptcy: Negative Demand Spillover to Competitors” was featured by Harvard Law School Bankruptcy Roundtable, Chicago Business Review, and Oxford Business Law Blog. In addition, his article titled "Price Reactions to Rivals' Local Channel Exits" was featured in the Capital Ideas Magazine of Chicago Booth. Cem has served as a referee for the Journal of Marketing Research, Management Science, and Quantitative Marketing and Economics.

In 2019, Cem was selected as one of the “World’s Best 40 Under 40 MBA Professors” by Poets & Quants. At Georgia Tech, he received three university-level teaching awards: the Class of 1940 W. Roane Beard Outstanding Teacher Award (2019), the CTL/BP Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award (2017) and the Class of 1940 Course Survey Teaching Effectiveness Award (2013, 2014, and 2017). Additionally, he won the Full-time MBA Elective Professor of the Year Award in 2014, 2018 and 2020; and the Evening MBA Elective Professor of the Year Award in 2015.
