Professor Shakespeare's research focuses on the effects of the financial reporting process on the decisions of managers and capital market participants.

Executive Leadership

Dr. Catherine Shakespeare is the PricewaterhouseCoopers-Norm Auerbach Assistant Professor of Accounting and Sanford R. Robertson Assistant Professor of Business Administration at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.  Professor Shakespeare teaches an MBA course on Corporate Financial Reporting and a Public Policy class for the Master in Accounting Program.

Professor Shakespeare obtained her doctoral degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2002.  She received her B.A. from the Dublin City University.  She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.  Her work experience includes Audit Senior at Arthur Andersen & Co. in Chicago and Dublin.

Professor Shakespeare's research focuses heavily on regulation and the impacts it has on the decisions of users and preparers of financial reporting information.  Professor Shakespeare is considered an expert on issues related to accounting for asset securitizations and fair value as she has worked extensively in this area.  Other research has focused on non-profits and internal controls over financial reporting.  Her publications include articles in The Accounting Review, Review of Accounting Studies, and the Journal of Accounting and Economics.  She is a member of the Editorial Board of The Accounting Review.
