Booth School of Business

Dr. Bruce L. Gewertz is a nationally known vascular surgeon with 40 years’ experience in academic medicine. Since 2006, he has served as vice dean for academic affairs, vice president for interventional services, and surgeon-in-chief at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. Previously, he was on the faculty at the University of Chicago for 25 years; serving 14 of those years as surgery department chair.

A prolific investigator, his research in physiology, health services, and human factors has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, and the American Heart Association. Along with David Logan, he co-authored a highly successful book on physician development, The Best Medicine: A Physician’s Guide to Effective Leadership.

Widely sought as a keynote speaker and consultant on leadership and organization, he has counseled multiple academic institutions and hospitals. He serves on a number of corporate boards and on the managing committee of an $80 million venture fund and biotech accelerator.
