Biography
Hertie School of Governance
Anke Hassel is Professor of Public Policy at the Hertie School of Governance and Academic Director of the Hans Böckler Foundation’s Institute of Economic and Social Research (WSI). Her research centres on the institutional foundations of business systems, labour rights and corporate social responsibility. Hassel is also a faculty member at the Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies. From 2009 until 2012, she was Senior Visiting Fellow at the European Institute of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Prior to that, she was Professor of Sociology at the Jacobs University Bremen, after working for the Planning Department of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour (BMWA) in 2003/2004. Hassel studied political science, economics and law in Bonn and at the LSE. In 1996, she joined the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne and obtained her PhD at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum in 1998. She has also been a visiting scholar at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) and at King''s College, Cambridge.
