Biography

Academic since 1984 (previously practising solicitor). Professor of Law at Lancaster and then Leeds before present appointment. Barrister (Lincoln ''s Inn) 1998. Member of editorial board of Professional Negligence since 1995 (case notes editor since 2010). Editor of Insurance Law and Practice 1991-94. Editor of Encyclopaedia of Insurance Law 1992-96. Legal Consultant to Insurance Ombudsman 1990-94. Member, Council of Personal Investment Authority Ombudsman Bureau 1994-2000. He was also the Law Commission Consultant for their Working Paper on Limitation of Actions (No 151). Has also taught at the Universities of Maastricht, Nancy, Trier and Uppsala.

He is also a part-time practising barrister at Kings Chambers in Manchester and Leeds specialising in Chancery Commercial work.

Teaching:

Focussed principally on insurance contract law.

He has a number of PhD students working in the various areas of interest identified above. The supervision of research students is now the major part of his work with students.

Has appeared on radio and television as expert commentator on areas of corporate and commercial law. Can also provide authoritative comment on his other research areas and on matters relating to legal professional practice.
