Virginia Rademacher

Academic Division: Arts & HumanitiesVirginia (Jenny) Rademacher is Associate Professor of Hispanic Literature and Culture, and Director of Languages & Global Cultures at Babson College. She earned a B.A from Harvard University, and an M.A. in International Affairs and Economics from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). She received a PhD in Hispanic Literature from the University of Virginia. At the University of Virginia, she was the recipient of a grant from Spain’s Ministry of Culture towards her current book project. This study relates approaches to uncertainty and risk in the fields of business and finance with literary strategies as seen through recent trends in Spanish narrative. Professor Rademacher’s research interests center on contemporary Spanish literature, shifting conceptions and representations of identity, biography and autobiography, and emerging trends in Hispanic literature in response to new media and technological change. She has published articles and reviews in various journals and texts, including the Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies, Ciberletras, Hispanic Issues Series, and Monographic Review/Revista Monográfica, among others. Her chapter in Hispanic Issues (2012) centers on the function of social media, digital games and new narrative formats among Spanish writers. She also contributed a chapter on Generation X in Spain for an edited volume on Gen X fiction globally: Generation X Goes Global: Mapping a Youth Culture in Motion (Routledge, 2012). A recent article for Monographic Review/Revista Monográfica addressed representations of genre, gender, and popular culture in Alicia Giménez-Bartlett’s Petra Delicado detective series. Along with courses in Spanish language and culture, she teaches a variety of interdisciplinary courses in English regarding the history, politics, and literature of Spain, Latin America, and the Latino experience within the U.S. Prior to coming to Babson, she taught at the University of Virginia, Randolph College, and Georgetown University.
