Research Interests:

The ability to image pathobiology of atherosclerosis has been a fundamental driver of the paradigm shift in the way atherosclerosis is viewed today as a systemic inflammatory disease with an immunological basis. Imaging with techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging has allowed us to unravel the pathology of atherosclerosis and monitor efficacy of known and novel pharmacotherapies targeted at atherosclerosis. We have developed imaging platforms which allow morphological and functional assessment of atherosclerosis related-neovascularisation and inflammation. Significant body of work by the bioengineers within our group has allowed imaging based ex vivo and in vivo assessment of haemodynamic factors that influence atherosclerotic disease process. Our current focus is development of novel techniques that allow cellular imaging of mediators of atherosclerosis. Our bioengineering wing aims to analyse existing endovascular technologies such as aortic stents in terms of their effective durability with a view to develop the next generation of durable endovascular (bio)prosthesis.
