Stanford Continuing Studies

Tracy Wilk works with leaders in technology and financial technology, helping them develop effective responses to challenging leadership and management situations. For thirty years prior to becoming a coach, Wilk held several senior management roles, most recently at Google, where he was chief compliance officer and a senior director of finance. Wilk received Google’s “Great Manager” award and an MBA from UC Berkeley.

I am an Executive Coach located in the San Francisco bay area. Prior to becoming an Executive Coach, I worked in financial services and technology at companies large and small for more than 30 years. I have held roles in product management, corporate venturing investing, new technology development, finance and operations. In my last corporate role, I was with Google for 12 years where I held titles ranging from Chief Compliance Officer to Senior Director of Finance to Vice President of Google Payment Corporation. Earlier in my career, I was an officer at a number of companies including Visa, First Data Corporation and Cybersource.

I received a BA in Economics and an MBA, both from the University of California, Berkeley.

I am a frequent writer, blogger and speaker on topics ranging from career reinvention, to working with mentors, to preparing for a career that will ride the wave of technological change rather than getting swept away by it. A popular article titled "Homeless, Not Harvard, On the Path to Google" tells a powerful story of a Google executive who encountered significant personal challenges early in his life that derailed his career and how he navigated through them to become the influential thought leader in his field and the liaison to major Google partners and government agencies that he is today.

I recently taught a course on a career development course titled "Google Leaders on Managing Your Career" for Stanford University's Continuing Studies program. This course was informed by the content of more than 85 interviews on career management that I held with Google's senior managers and leaders over a one-year period.
