Darla Moore School of Business

Tim Brown is an associate professor in the School of Accounting at the Darla Moore School of Business. He joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina in the fall of 2020, coming from the University of Illinois. His teaching interests and experience include both financial accounting and financial statement analysis, and his classes were included in a university-wide list of Teachers Ranked as Excellent at the University of Illinois for 8 consecutive years. His research examines the judgments and decisions made by investors and auditors, with a focus on how psychological factors can change decision making. He has published research manuscripts in several top journals, including The Accounting Review, The Journal of Accounting Research, Contemporary Accounting Research, and Accounting, Organizations and Society. He is on the editorial board at The Accounting Review and Behavioral Research in Accounting.

He received his B.A. from Rice University, his MACC from the University of Virginia, and his Ph.D. from Cornell University. He is also a licensed certified public accountant (inactive) in the state of Texas.

Research

His research interests include investor decision making, audit judgment and decision-making, the effects of advice from internal auditors and how contextual factors change juror perceptions.
