TOM ROSE, formerly an assistant vice president with Sun Life Financial, Canada's largest insurance company, has been appointed vice president for human capital development and chief human resources officer at Syracuse University. He will oversee the human resources function for the university and will report to Kal Alston, senior vice president for human capital development. Rose, who has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from DePaul University and graduate-level training in industrial organizational psychology, began his career at Sun Life in Boston as director of human resource development for U.S. operations in 2001.

Highlights of my career include:

  • Talent Management/Human Capital
  • Supported achievement of strategic business objectives by specifying talent gaps and gap closing priorities through human capital dashboards for 70 leadership teams; Completed human capital enhancement for service sites, IT Applications Development, and Underwriting.
  • Facilitated achievement of culture shift objectives with the implementation of a global engagement survey that facilitated significant increases in customer focus, engagement, brand identity and goal alignment

HR Leadership

  • Chief Human Resources Officer: Increased span of control and de-layered management & staffed new management structure with talent review process for Department of Public Safety. Retirement program upgrades recognized as one of four national 403b finalists by Plan Sponsor Magazine.
  • Led Compensation, Talent Planning & Metrics, and HRD functions.
