Biography

IMS

Dr. Theo Compernolle born in Bruges, Belgium originally trained as a medical doctor, neuropsychiatrist and psychotherapist. He became an expert on the emotional and relational aspects of leadership and the enhancement of resilience of executives, executive teams and organizations. He is the Suez Chair on Leadership and Personal Development of the century old Solvay Business School of the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He teaches and coaches in the executive programs of business schools such as the INSEAD (France), the Vlerick Leuven Ghent School for Management of the universities of Gent and Leuven in Belgium and the TIAS business school in Tilburg (Netherlands). He has been doing research on stress since 1976. He developed a unique, efficient approach to stress-management, taking stress management out of the hands of consultants/helping professionals and putting in the hands of the only people who can realize its impressive Return on Investment: those of managers. He published several books (two best sellers) and more than a hundred articles. His book Stress: Friend and Foe: Vital Stress Management at Work and in the Family became a management bestseller and long-seller and so did the videos/DVDs based on it. He recently published "How to be Successful as a Family with a Business"(in Dutch). He was an adjunct professor-at-large at INSEAD after having been a professor at the Free University of Amsterdam and a visiting professor at the Vlerick Leuven Ghent Business School. He earned a Ph.D. on his stress-research at the University of Amsterdam (the Netherlands). He is certified as a psychotherapist and as medical specialist in neuropsychiatry, psychotherapy and rehabilitation. He graduated as a Medical Doctor at the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium).

INSEAD Business School

Dr Theo Compernolle MD. PhD. is an independent international consultant, executive (team)coach, trainer and key-note speaker.

He teaches and coaches in the executive programs of business schools including INSEAD and CEDEP in France, IMD in Switserland and TIAS in the Netherlands. He also consults, teaches and coaches professionals, managers and executives in a wide range of (multi)national companies, professional services firms and training institutions in many different cultures and countries. He does this in English, Dutch and French.

Formerly he was an adjunct professor at CEDEP (Fontainebleau-France), Suez Chair in Leadership and Personal Development at the Solvay Business School, Adjunct Professor at INSEAD (FR), Visiting Professor at the Vlerick School for Management (B) and TIAS (NL) and Professor at the Free University of Amsterdam (FR). He has also been the director of several inpatient and outpatient departments.

Theo was first drawn into the world of business after the publication of his PhD about stress caused quite a stir in the media.

Since then he has become an expert on the emotional and relational aspects of leadership and enhancing the resilience of executives, executive teams, organizations and families with a business, especially in times of conflict, stress and change.

As a medical doctor, neuro-psychiatrist, psychotherapist and business consultant, Theo studies research from very different fields including medicine, biology, psychology, neurology, physiology and management. He then burns the midnight oil to integrate this information into a coherent whole and to find simple ways to pass on this knowledge, in a memorable way, to all kinds of professionals. His clients often call his sessions “Science made simple and useful”.

He has published several non-fiction books and more than a hundred scientific articles. Three of his books ao. "Stress: Friend and Foe. Vital Stress Management at work and in the family" (Sold out. Third update expected end 2019) became bestsellers and long-sellers.

It is translated in Russian and Chinese. The Dutch translation was on the top-10 best-sellers list.

Theo gained a Ph.D. on his research into stress from the University of Amsterdam (the Netherlands). He is certified as a psychotherapist and as medical specialist in neuropsychiatry and psychotherapy. He trained at the universities of Amsterdam (The Netherlands), Leiden (The Netherlands) and Pennsylvania (USA) where he was a fellow. He graduated as a Medical Doctor from the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium).
