Teemu Roos is an expert and educator in AI, machine learning, and data science. His free Elements of Artificial Intelligence online course for non-experts is rated as the world's best computer science MOOC on Class Central. Roos has been a visiting fellow at the University of Cambridge, visiting researcher at MIT, UC San Diego, and USC, and a visiting postdoc at UC Berkeley. He serves on program committees of major international machine learning conferences including NeurIPS, ICML, and UAI. He has published over 50 peer reviewed scientific articles, and holds two international patents.

Roos has given invited talks at, e.g., Google, Apple, Microsoft Research, Stanford University, Yale, Purdue, Sorbonne, Club de Madrid, and UNESCO.

In the early 2000s, his work on wireless device positioning (more than 1000 scientific citations) was commercialized as the spinoff company Ekahau Inc. This led to a successful $100+ million exit in 2018 (acquired by Ookla/Ziff Davis).

Roos is a full professor of computer science at the University of Helsinki. He is a member of the steering group of the Finnish Center for AI (www.fcai.fi) where he also leads the AI Education programme.

Together with his research group at the University of Helsinki, Teemu develops new machine learning methods for a wide range of application areas such as medicine and neuroscience, quantum physics, and digital humanities.
