Biography

-

Prior to joining the UAEU, I held academic appointments in the Rhine-Westphalia Institute for Economic Research in Germany (2001-2004), the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK (2004-2005) and the Universities of Vaasa (2005-2009) and Turku (2009-2013) as well as Aalto University (2014-2021) in Finland.

My research combines economic and psychological perspectives to entrepreneurship.

My current research topics include:

  • entrepreneurs' wellbeing
  • entrepreneurship and population ageing
  • the role of trust in the financial relationships of SMEs
  • the psychological processes involved in the translation of entrepreneurial intentions into actions
  • quantitative methods

I have published more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals including Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Management, Small Business Economics and Regional Studies.

In addition, I am an editorial board member of Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour & Research, International Small Business Journal, Journal of Business Venturing and Journal of Trust Research.

I endeavour to collaborate with policy makers and practitioners. I have advised ministries in Finland and Germany as well as the ILO, OECD, the European Commission and Eurostat on enterprise policy matters.
