Biography
Dr Taran Patel has lived and worked in several countries including India, France, Spain, UAE, Singapore, Finland and the UK. She is an Associate Professor in the Management and Organizational Behaviour Department. She was also the Program Director of the MIB (Masters of International Business) program of Grenoble Ecole de Management from September 2009 to July 2013. She currently holds the position of Visiting Scholar at the University of Oxford where she does research in the area of cross-cultural management, corporate sustainability reporting practices and the culture of innovations. She is also an affiliate researcher at the newly created Center for India and Global Business at the Judge Institute, University of Cambridge. In past years, Dr Patel has published academic articles in many internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals. These include CNRS listed journals like Management Decisions, European Management Review, Journal of Business Ethics, and Business and Society, and ABS listed journals like Innovations: A European Journal of Social Sciences. Her recent publications also include articles on leadership effectiveness in ABS-listed European Journal of Training and Development and Human Resource Development International. Her first book entitled ‘Stereotypes of Intercultural Management'' was published in 2007 and was the culmination of her doctoral thesis, which won the EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development) Award for best doctoral thesis in the Corporate Governance category in 2006. She has been a consultant to companies such as Salmson in France and Technip-Coflexip in India. She has been involved in diversity training programs with companies such as Atos Origin and AXA. Her initiatives in creating awareness regarding Diversity Management were recognized when she was invited as a speaker at the World Diversity Leadership Summit at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in 2007. In April 2013, Dr Patel was conferred an award for ‘Research Excellence'' (with Professors Robert Hamlin, Sandy Whitford, and Carlos Ruiz) from the President of India, Dr Pranab Mukherjee (as part of the IFTDO conference). Dr Patel regularly presents papers in international conferences such as Academy of Management, European Group for Organizational Studies, British Academy of Management, Academy of Human Resources Development, and University Forum of Human Resources Development. Her second book - a text book on alternative ways of addressing culture in international business than the commonly cited national and corporate culture paradigms - is scheduled to be published by Routledge in October 2013. Dr Patel''s teaching interests include: Cultural Issues in International Business, Human Resources Management, Organizational Behavior, and Qualitative Research Methods. She mostly teaches on the Masters, DBA and PhD programs..
