Priv.-Doz. Dr.-Ing. habil. rer. pol. Sven-Volker Rehm is Associate Professor of Information Systems at Université de Strasbourg – Ecole de Management Strasbourg (EM Business School) in France since September 2018. Since 2007 he held positions as Assistant Professor and Interim Chair of Information Management at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management. He was Global Visiting Professor at TU Munich 2020-2021. Sven's research lies at the intersection of Communication, Technology, and Organizing with a focus on digitalization of innovation, organization and entrepreneurship through digital technologies, platforms and infrastructures. His research has been published in journals such as Information & Management, Information and Organization, Journal of the AIS, MIS Quarterly Executive, International Journal of Information Management, Smart Cities, and others.
Sven holds a 5-year diploma in cybernetics (information science and engineering) and a doctorate in engineering sciences in the field of business informatics from the University of Stuttgart, Germany. He received his Habilitation degree in business administration from WHU in November, 2014. He has taught in the areas of information systems, digital business, technology and innovation management and systems sciences in Bachelor, Master and PhD programs at WHU, University of Strasbourg, and University of Stuttgart. Sven acted as reviewer and associate editor for several journals and conferences, among them European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS), Journal of Information Technology (JIT), Academy of Management CTO, ODC, OMT & TIM divisions, ECIS, and the Int. Conf. on Wirtschaftsinformatik. He assisted the European Commission as independent expert in the field of integration of technologies for industrial applications (NMP theme). He is executive chairman of the Society for Managerial and Social Cybernetics, and a member of AIS, AOM, INFORMS and the German Informatics Society.
Sven's activities target at achieving business impact through transfer of research findings to managerial practice. To this end he has consulted and researched with dozens of SMEs across Europe to improve their capabilities for information management, innovation management, and digital transformation. A current focus is on developing business models for digital platforms and services in the areas of cybersecurity and VR. He has led, managed and researched in European Community research projects for more than 20 years, and has acquired third-party co-funded projects of more than 30m EUR budget. A key result of these initiatives was the creation of several enterprise innovation networks. The companies learned to enhance their value creation through new forms of cooperation, and by adoption of new materials, processes, and technologies. They transformed their organizational processes towards improving their R&D management and networking capabilities for cooperative innovation. Information systems in this context enable the knowledge exchange between involved actors, and allow to create and manage complementary relationships between firms.
