Suzanne Choo is Associate Professor in the English Language and Literature Academic Group at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

She taught English Language and Literature for several years at a secondary school in Singapore before receiving the NTU Overseas Graduate Scholarship to pursue her PhD at Teachers College, Columbia University, USA.

Her research has been published in various peer-reviewed journals such as Harvard Educational Review, Reading Research Quarterly, Research in the Teaching of English, Critical Studies in Education, Curriculum Inquiry, Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education, among others.

Her book, Reading the world, the globe, and the cosmos: Approaches to teaching literature for the twenty-first century was awarded the 2014 Critics Choice Book Award by the American Educational Studies Association.

Her most recent books are: Teaching ethics through literature: The significance of Ethical Criticism in a global age (Routledge, 2021) and co-edited volumes titled Educating for the twenty-first century: Perspectives, policies and practices from around the world (Springer, 2017) and Literature education in the Asia-Pacific: Policies and practices and perspectives in global times (Routledge, 2018).

She has written numerous books on literary analysis that are used widely in Singapore schools including the textbook co-written with Robert Yeo, Sense & Sensitivity: A guide to unseen poetry (Ethos, 2018). In 2016 and 2021, she was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Commendation award by the National Institute of Education.

She is founder and co-chairperson of the National Schools Literature Festival in Singapore and co-founded Studies in Educational Innovation at Teachers College, Columbia University which conducts research on how schools around the world prepare students for 21st century globalization. She is on the governing board of the Global Learning Alliance, a consortium of schools and universities from around the world.

She is interested in issues related to education for global and cosmopolitan citizenship particularly in relation to literature education. Other interests include the disciplinary history of literature in English; theorizations of literature pedagogy; world, global and cosmopolitan approaches to teaching literature; and ethics and ethical criticism.
