Biography

Center for Creative Leadership

With over 20 years in the field of education, Susan has worked in and with private and public schools, colleges, and universities and non-profit organizations across the U.S. She has taught at both the University and Community College level and has held multiple leadership roles within the educational system.

Her vast experiences as a professional educator and school leader have given her an insider’s perspective of the challenges and rewards of innovation for improving educational systems. She strongly believes that leadership is both a science and an art form; a continued process that requires creativity, curiosity, a sense of adventure, and a true appreciation of the diverse needs of learners.

As a Societal Advancement faculty member, Susan designs and delivers custom designed leadership solutions for K-12, Higher Education, and non-profits that include both short term experiences and systemic initiatives. Her CCL experience has partnered her with numerous clients including High Point University, Ravenscroft School, the National Association of Independent Schools, and the Margaret Waddington Vermont Principals Initiative. She also facilitates capacity development programs for administrators, faculty, coaches and mentors.

Susan earned an Educational Masters (EdM) in Human Development and Psychology from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. An avid lifelong learner, Susan’s background also includes a Masters in Fine Arts (MFA) in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College with a focus on the intersection of social sciences and performative arts, and a Master in Education (MEd) in Theatre Education from University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and spent a semester abroad. Through her overseas study she gained a deep appreciation for other cultures and has travelled internationally as a partner with educational outcome missions.

Susan’s conference presentations include the Harvard Graduate School of Education Student Research Conference and the Association of Experiential Education. Before coming to CCL, she led programs for students and staff at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, the Boston Area Mindful Educators Network, the Women’s Resource Center of Greensboro, NC and the Triad Career Network. Susan is a member of the Triad Coaching Connection and is a past member of the Piedmont Association for Talent Development. She currently serves as a board member of a non-profit association.
