She is also the Technical Sponsor of the joint CERT/Heinz College CISO Executive Certificate Program. Summer has been with Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute for almost nine years. She is the Technical Director for CERT’s Cybersecurity Risk and Resilience Directorate with teams focused on challenges in operational risk management, insider threat, and technical assessments. Summer is responsible for executing the strategic plan for a research portfolio focused on improving the security and resilience of organizational assets, including people, information, technology, facilities, and infrastructures. Prior to joining CERT in 2007, Summer was a Technical Member of the staff at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and a software engineer at Northrop Grumman Corporation working on tactical ground systems.
Education
Summer holds a BS degree in Computer Science and a MS degree in Information Science/Telecommunications from the University of Pittsburgh. She is also a graduate of the Carnegie Mellon University Tepper School Leadership and Negotiation for Women program. She is also an active Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute.
