Nyenrode Business University

Steven Schuit is professor of Corporate Governance and Responsibility at Nyenrode Business Universiteit and professor of Corporate Law and Business Transactions at Utrecht University. He is on the board of several (listed) companies. He is also chairing several not-for-profit organisations. He is member of the board of Grotius Academie, a high level post graduate education for practising lawyers. He was partner at the global law firm Allen & Overy until 2005 and is currently counsel to this firm. Previously, he was partner at Loeff Claeys Verbeke (as from 1975). He was the senior resident partner for this firm in New York from 1980 to 1990. Mr. Schuit has been legal counsel to the board of several international corporations and institutions for cross border mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures. He has assisted major corporate clients and financial institutions in advising and negotiating international transactions in various parts of the world including the US, Russia, Latin America, Japan, China, Korea and the Far East. Currently he is also lecturing corporate, banking and pension fund governance and he is advisor to several boards.

 

He publishes frequently about corporate-, banking- and pension fund governance. Most recently he wrote "The Chairman Makes or Breaks the Board".
