Biography
A Columbus, Ohio native and 2005 graduate of Hampton University, Dr. Chambers is an educator, religious leader, school district administrator, and entrepreneur. Having served the Greater Houston, Texas area for over a decade as an elementary school teacher, college access counselor, district administrator, associate pastor, and founder of two African American male mentoring programs, Chambers finds his Purpose deeply rooted in resourcing the repair of individual & social systems of brokenness.
In his current role as Senior Advisor for Partnerships and Innovations at the New York City Department of Education (the nation’s largest school district), Steven is charged with reimagining school design, cultivating partnerships to enhance student supports, and securing resources for the 1 million students in the city of New York. Most recently, Steven was a policy writer and the chief administrator for NYC’s Outdoor Learning Initiative, featured in the New York Times. In response to COVID-19, the Initiative close to 900 schools in securing public street and park space to conduct academic classes and school day activities outdoors: mitigating the spread of the coronavirus.
A recent graduate from Harvard University’s Doctor of Education Leadership (Ed.L.D.) program and a certified Data Wise improvement coach, Dr. Chambers approaches the work of community and school system leadership through the lens of continuous improvement, racial equity, and social emotional wellness. In his spare time, Chambers finds joy in teaching as an adjunct professor at the HTH Graduate School of Education, serving on the board of directors for Young Life Manhattan and I AM C.U.L.T.U.R.E.D., lifting weights, boxing, spending time with family & friends, reading, and remaining an active brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
